Weekend Power Deposit: Build Your File Cleanup Routine

Build Your File Cleanup Routine

This weekend, create a simple file cleanup routine.

Because files keep arriving.

Downloads.
Screenshots.
Receipts.
Photos.
Drafts.
Invoices.
Customer notes.
Marketing graphics.
Random PDFs.

If you do not create a cleanup habit, your downloads folder will become a swamp.

And swamps are not known for productivity.

Use this structure:

Weekly File Cleanup Routine

Once a week:

  • Clear business files from Downloads
  • Move receipts into Money or Receipts folder
  • Move customer files into customer folders
  • Save useful screenshots into Proof or Marketing
  • Rename files that are unclear
  • Delete duplicates or junk
  • Move templates into Templates folder
  • Choose one folder to tidy for 12 minutes

That last line is key.

One folder.

Do not try to clean the entire system every week.

Just keep it from getting out of control.

You can also create a temporary folder called:

To Sort

That is allowed.

But here is the rule:

To Sort cannot become a landfill.

It gets reviewed weekly.

A temporary folder is a holding area.

Not a retirement community for lost documents.

Keep the system light.

The best file system is the one you will use when you are busy.

Not the one that looks impressive for three days and then collapses under screenshots.
